Toscolano-Maderno is one of the most evocative places on the western shore of Lake Garda: a town that combines ancient history, Mediterranean nature, quiet beaches and romantic views. It's not a chaotic destination like others on the lake; here the pace is slower, ideal for those who want to explore, stroll and enjoy the landscape.

Here's what's really worth doing.

🌿 Walking along the lakefront and through the historic village

The first way to experience Toscolano-Maderno is simply to walk. The lakefront is one of the most beautiful on Lake Garda: palm trees, bars, benches and an open view of the water with mountains reflected in the lake.

The town is actually made up of two historic centers: Toscolano and Maderno.
Maderno preserves a more elegant and ancient atmosphere, with historic villas and small squares overlooking the lake.

Not to be missed:

• the splendid Church of Sant'Andrea, an 11th-century Romanesque basilica with ancient columns and a very strong medieval charm.
• the small streets behind the lakefront, full of photogenic corners and typical establishments.

It's the classic place to stop for an aperitif at sunset while watching the boats.

🏛️ Discovering the Valley of Paper Mills

One of the most unique places on Lake Garda is the Valle delle Cartiere (Valley of Paper Mills).

For centuries this valley was the center of paper production for the Republic of Venice. Today it's a historical-naturalistic park with:

• ruins of ancient paper mills
• forest trails
• small streams and bridges
• the Paper Museum

It's an easy and very evocative walk, perfect if you like somewhat hidden places and industrial history.

🏖️ Relaxing on the beaches

Toscolano-Maderno has some of the most peaceful beaches on the Brescia side of the lake.

Among the most beautiful:

• Lido Azzurro – well-maintained beach with bar and crystal-clear water
• Benaco Beach – wilder and more scenic
• Toscolano Beach – much loved for sunsets

Here you can swim, rent kayaks or simply lie down watching the lake.

⛰️ Panoramic trekking

Behind the town, the mountains of the Alto Garda Bresciano Park rise immediately.

One of the most spectacular routes leads to the Gaino plateau and the trails of the Alto Garda Bresciano Park. From up there the view of Lake Garda is incredible: the lake almost looks like a sea.

There are routes for everyone:

• easy walks among olive groves and lemon houses
• panoramic trekking
• mountain bike trails

⛴️ Taking the ferry across the lake

From Maderno departs one of the most useful ferries on Lake Garda: the one to Torri del Benaco.

In about 30 minutes you cross the lake and arrive on the Verona shore. It's a beautiful way to see Lake Garda from the water and take a little day trip.

🍝 Eating with a lake view

Toscolano-Maderno is also an excellent place to eat Lake Garda cuisine.

Typical dishes to try:
